What To Bring To A Firework Viewing With The Family

The sun is shining, clear blue skies, and the BBQ has started. Sound familiar? If so, you may be thinking of Independence Day, which means fireworks. For some parents, this could sound like a time to make memories that last a lifetime. But for most, it can be a stress-filled evening with kids running around.

Let’s make a night worth enjoying by following our tips and tricks on viewing fireworks with the family. We will cover different items to bring and how they will help create a positive experience.

Bug Spray

This may arguably be the most essential item on the list. Bug spray. It is when we need it most, we never have it near. But this year, you will. Before you go, make sure you have bug repellent packed in your bags. This can be found in nearly every store, so if you’re out, make a stop. Because without it, you’ll be wishing you had made the stop!

Never Forget About Snacks

Getting to the event an hour or so early is a must to find the perfect spot on the grass. However, if you haven’t eaten recently, prepare for the kids to ask for food. The number of times they ask when the fireworks will start may be the vain of your existence. Instead, bring snacks and drinks.

We recommend finding a large insulated bag and packing various items. This includes:

  • Fruits
  • Cookies
  • Crackers
  • Water
  • Juice

The food will create occupied kids and full bellies. But if you’re prepared, you’ll pack extra. Once the other children find out there are snacks around, don’t be surprised if they ask for some.

Get Glow Sticks

Every child can remember the excitement of putting on glow sticks. And this feeling is still in our children today! Head to your local store and buy a bunch for them to wear. Once the sun goes down, the kids will be happy, and so will you. Just make sure to bring extra for the adults!

Picnic Blanket And Chairs

There’s nothing wrong with sitting on the grass, but let’s be honest. Chairs and blankets are way more comfortable. So grab your largest blanket or order a picnic blanket that will fit the entire family. And make sure you have enough chairs for everyone (or at least the adults).

Bring Activities

Depending on how early you show up, you could have your children waiting a while before anything starts. This can cause them to be a little antsy, so we recommend bringing a list of small things to keep them occupied. This includes:

  • Bubbles
  • Cards
  • Trivia

These few games will keep them entertained, and before you know it, the fireworks will begin. Plus, if you keep the activities competitive, you could even give them prizes for winning them.
